2019 Taste of Buffalo Scholarship Recipients
I will be graduating from Kenmore West High School in June 2019 and will be attending Niagara Culinary Institute/NCCC where I will major in Baking and Pastry Arts. My interest in baking started as a young child baking with my mother and those experiences have grown into a passion for baking and cake decorating. Baking is an exciting medium for me to express my artistic vision. I have won 1st place in a Gingerbread competition, 3rd place in a Skills USA commercial baking competition and 1st place in a cake decorating competition. I hope to incorporate what I learn into achieving my goal of opening a bakery focused on not only taste and appearance, but also the health and dietary requirements of my customers.
I am currently a senior at Lancaster High School. I am enrolled in the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism. I was a member of the men’s Varsity swim team throughout my high school career. In the fall, I will be attending Erie Community College in their Culinary Arts Program. Currently I am employed at Russell’s Steaks Chops and More as a hot appetizer chef. Last summer, I spent my time at the speedway as the youngest NASCAR starter. I enjoy cooking and am excited to pursue my passion by perfecting my skills in the culinary field. In the future, I hope to become a professional chef.
I will be graduating from Frontier Central High School in June 2019 and will be continuing my education at the Culinary Institute of America in Culinary Science with a concentration in Baking and Pastry Arts. I have completed a two-year program in Baking and Pastry at Erie 1 Harkness Center. I am a member in the Technical Honor Society, Girls Varsity bowing, Orchestra and the ETHOS Club. My goal is to work with Disney as part of their baking and pastry team.
I am currently a senior at Iroquois High School and I have also attended the W.D. Ormsby BOCES culinary program. In addition, through BOCES I intern at Kayleena Marie’s Bakery. I plan to attend the Culinary Institute of America in the fall for Baking and Pastry, with a Bachelor’s in Food Business Management. After graduating, it is my hope to open a bakery where a majority of the employees are people with special needs; allowing many opportunities for a disabled people to better themselves in doing something they love. I hope to be able to teach them skills and spread the passion of baking.
I will be graduating from Sweet Home High School this June and will attend Niagara University in the fall where I will major in Hotel Planning, Development and Operations. I have been a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, Symphony Orchestra, Amherst Youth Consortium and Girl Scouts where I have earned my Gold Award. After graduating with my Bachelor’s degree I hope to be employed at a well-known hotel and see different parts of the world.
