Taste of Buffalo presented by TOPS donates $4,000 to Food Bank of WNY
BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 20, 2016 — The Taste of Buffalo presented by TOPS announced today that the organization donated $4,000 to the Food Bank of WNY. In part, this donation was made possible thanks to the purchases of festival-goers at the event last July.
"The Food Bank of WNY is the primary hunger-relief organization in our region, serving an average of more than 129,000 people per month," said Jen Mitri, 2016 Taste of Buffalo chair. "As a not-for-profit food festival, the Taste is proud to support their mission to help families struggling with hunger, especially during the holiday season."
Each year, the Taste allocates funds for the outgoing chair to support the local community through a donation to their choice of charity. In addition, the Taste partners with select non-profits to staff ticket and beverage booths with volunteers in return for a donation. The festival also offers five annual $1,000 scholarships to local high school seniors pursuing a culinary or hospitality-related degree. More than $360,000 has been donated back to the community to date.
The Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops is the nation's largest two-day food festival, attracting more than 450,000 visitors each year. The 34th annual Taste will take place on July 8 and 9, 2017 along Delaware Avenue and Niagara Square in downtown Buffalo.
