Taste of Buffalo presented by TOPS donates $5,000 each to Food Bank of Western New York and Roswell Park Alliance Foundation
Dec. 22, 2015, BUFFALO, N.Y. - Today, the Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops announced that the organization has donated $5,000 each to the Food Bank of Western New York and the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation. Each year, the Taste allocates funds for the outgoing chair to support the Western New York community and make a donation to the charity or charities of his/her choice. Attendees' purchases at this year's July event helped make the donations possible.
"As a not-for-profit food festival managed by a volunteer board-of-directors, we believe that giving back is extremely important. Visitors to the Taste can feel good about supporting our event because the money goes right back into the community," said Laura Jacobs, 2015 Taste of Buffalo chair. "Along with annual charitable contributions to organizations such as the Food Bank and Roswell, the Taste also partners with select non-profits to staff ticket and beverage booths with volunteers in return for a donation. In addition, our scholarship program is yet another way that our event helps to improve the lives of others."
The Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops is the nation's largest two-day food festival, attracting more than 450,000 visitors each year. The 33rd annual Taste will take place on July 9 and 10, 2016 along Delaware Avenue and Niagara Square in downtown Buffalo. The Taste is a not-for-profit organization with more than 1,000 volunteers helping to put on the annual event. More than $316,000 has been raised at the festival for local charities in addition to five $1,000 scholarships awarded annually to local high school seniors pursuing a culinary or hospitality-related degree.
