Dec. 20, 2017, BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Taste of Buffalo presented by TOPS today announced details of a Homebrew Competition to kick off the organization’s 35th birthday celebration in 2018. The winning recipe will be brewed by 12 Gates Brewing Company and available for purchase at the 2018 Taste of Buffalo on July 7 and 8.

The contest is open to homebrewers residing in the five counties of Western New York including Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Allegany. Presented in conjunction with the Niagara Association of Homebrewers, registration will open on January 2 and run through January 20. During that time, entries can be dropped off at three locations including 12 Gates Brewing Company, 80 Earhart Dr., Williamsville; Niagara Tradition Homebrewing Supplies, 1296 Sheridan Dr., Buffalo; and Hamm & Fattey's Beer Company, 284 Buffalo St., Hamburg.

“The Taste turns 35 years old in 2018 and we are planning a big party! We invite the local homebrewing community to be a part of our celebration by entering their best easy-drinking, summery brews in the very first Taste of Buffalo Homebrew Competition,” said Richard McDermott, 2018 Taste of Buffalo Chair. “Our festival already highlights the best of Buffalo’s restaurants, wineries, and professionally-crafted brews. We are happy to expand that list to showcase the local homebrewing scene as well.”

The Taste of Buffalo Homebrew Competition is registered through the Beer Judge Certification Program. Other prizes include Taste of Buffalo pint glasses and food tickets for first, second, and third place winners in each category. Competition rules, including a complete list of accepted beer styles and other details, are listed at homebrewtasteofbuffalo.com.

The Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops is the nation's largest two-day food festival, attracting more than 450,000 visitors each year. The 35th annual Taste will take place on July 7 and 8, 2018 along Delaware Avenue in downtown Buffalo.
