Richard McDermott Named Chair of 35th Annual Taste of Buffalo presented by TOPS

December 11, 2017, BUFFALO, N.Y. – Richard McDermott, retired Operations Manager for Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA), has been elected 2018 chair of the Taste of Buffalo presented by TOPS. The 35th annual Taste, the nation's largest two-day food festival, will take place on July 7 and 8, 2018 along Delaware Avenue in downtown Buffalo.
McDermott retired from NFTA in 2016 after thirty-seven years of service. He has been a Taste of Buffalo board member since 1991, where he began as an ex officio to act as a liaison between NFTA and Taste of Buffalo. In recent years, he served as chair of the Security Committee. McDermott grew up in Niagara Falls and moved to Buffalo upon marrying his wife, Lori. In his retirement, he is enjoying spending time with his wife, daughters and grandchildren in addition to rehabbing his newly purchased 1940s home in the village of East Aurora. McDermott also plans to return to NFTA on a part-time basis in the future.
"I am privileged to be the 2018 Taste of Buffalo chair as we celebrate 35 years of showcasing Buffalo’s best restaurants. I look forward to our new homebrew competition taking place next month. The winning beer will be available to try or purchase during Taste of Buffalo weekend,” says McDermott. “It is exciting to watch Taste of Buffalo continue to grow each year along with Buffalo’s rejuvenation. Our event continues to be a tradition for not only Western New Yorkers, but for people visiting Buffalo from all over the world!”

The Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops is the nation's largest two-day food festival, attracting more than 450,000 visitors each year. The 35th annual Taste will take place on July 7 and 8, 2018, along Delaware Avenue in downtown Buffalo. The Taste is a not-for-profit organization with more than 1,000 volunteers helping to put on the annual event. Approximately $390,000 has been raised at the festival for local charities in addition to five $1,000 scholarships awarded annually to local high school seniors pursuing a culinary or hospitality-related degree.
